London – President Dilma Rousseff, who was in London for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, congratulated Sarah Menezes (gold medal) and Felipe Kitadai (bronze medal), Brazilian athletes who participated in judo. The president called the news of their victories “a happy event.” She congratulated them in the name of all Brazilians, adding that the government was pleased because they were part of the federal assistance program for athletes (“Programa Bolsa Atleta”). Dilma called their success a sign that the program was working.
The president left London on Saturday before Brazil got another medal winner: Thiago Pereira in the swimming pool. He won the silver medal in the 400-meter medley.
